New Development on the Former Fort Ord: Marina's University Villages -
II
This is Carrie Mann
with Sustainable Perspectives on the former Fort Ord.
Last week we talked about the city of Marina's new development called
the University Villages.
This development will be essentially a whole new town adjacent to the
new California State University Monterey Bay campus on the former Fort
Ord. University Villages will be part of the city of Marina and will incorporate
residential with commercial retail and business park space, as well as
two hotels, a conference center, an Arts District and a park system.
Here are some of the specifics:
o The University Villages design plans for 1,237 living units including
108 rental units.
o Up to 30% of the residences are planned to have some level of affordability.
o They plan 750,000 square feet of commercial space, and the same amount
of business park space.
o There are two hotels planned with a combined total of 500 hotel rooms.
o The development is estimated to bring 3,700 jobs to the area as well
as sales, property and hotel tax revenues for the city of Marina.
The design also integrates many aspects of sustainability such as walkability,
energy efficient appliances and native vegetation.
